RANGELEY LAKES SNOWMOBILE CLUB

NEWSLETTER

September 2001

Well, that was fast!!!  I’m talking about summer speeding by.  Hope everyone had a great one and now we can start thinking about the winter ahead and snowmobiling!!!

Election of officers was held in June.  Again this year, Kirk Ellis will serve as President, Clark Allen as Vice-President, club secretary as Secretary/Treasurer.

A few of our members have been working very hard this summer building the Magalloway River Bridge.  The bridge will finally be a reality and a big improvement to the Rangeley trail system.  Again, Clark Allen has outdone himself on this project.  A complete report on the building of the bridge will be included with the October newsletter and volunteers will be publicly acknowledged.  More help is needed and would be certainly appreciated to complete the project.  There is still plenty of work to be done.  If you can donate a day, a half-day or a few hours of your time, please call Clark at 207-864-2039 for a schedule of work dates coming up. This bridge has been a huge undertaking and has been in the planning stages for several years.   We need to name this bridge - any ideas?  Let us know.   Thanks to everyone who has donated time to work with Clark on this to date.

Enclosed in this envelope you will find your membership renewal form (or download the one on-line if you need to).  You can use the back side of the form to renew your membership with the same information as last year, or if you wish to make any changes, use the form on the front side.  We are hoping to achieve the #1 status in the State of Maine for memberships again this season.  Also enclosed is a form for our Easy Bucks drawing.   Please consider this opportunity to win some cash at our membership meetings.  You don’t need to be present to win and the proceeds from the entries go directly into our grooming fund.  Other information enclosed is an explanation of  the MSA insurance every member receives with their membership.  You can also insure your dependents for only $2 each.    Also enclosed is a tentative calendar of events for the upcoming season.  Members will be notified of any changes in this calendar.  You will also find 10 Super Raffle Tickets in your packet.  We are hoping that each member will either buy or sell 10 tickets.  The RLSC receives $1 for each ticket sold and the MSA awards the club with the most sales with cash prizes.  First place prize is $500.  We sure would like to receive this prize this year.  Last year the RLSC received the third place prize.  Let’s try to be #1 in sales this year!!!!

New maps are being printed this year.  Again, they will be sold for $5 and you may receive one by ordering through the club or you may purchase a map at local businesses in the Rangeley area.

We will have a booth at the Augusta Civic Center during the annual Snowmobile Show on October 5h, 6th and 7th.  The club would appreciate volunteers to man the booth.  If you are interested please let us know.   Hope to see you there!  We will also be at the 2001 Snowmobile Expo at the Big “E” Fairgrounds in  Springfield, Massachusetts on October 19, 20, 21.

In the past, the MSA has received $8 for each member in the Club.  This year, MSA increased the dues to $10.  The Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club did not increase membership dues to cover the additional $2 per member that we must send MSA.  It sure would be appreciated if our members would voluntarily send in an extra $2 with their membership.   This additional fee by MSA will cost the club approximately $600.  That’s $600 that could be spent on grooming our trails.

We hope to see everyone at our First Annual Swap Meet and Antique Snowmobile Show on September 8th.   We are planning to make this an annual event to kick off the start of the season.  September is beautiful in Rangeley, come on up and visit us!!!

Check our web page regularly to see items added between newsletters.  As soon as we have all the pictures from the bridge building, we will display them on the page along with names of volunteers and other information.

Until next month…….. (it’s too early to say “think snow”, but do it anyway!!!)

Please visit our Sponsors page to check out businesses who have donated or pledged to donate to our grooming and trail maintenance program for this season.
