Hopefully,
we all had a great summer and are just itching to get those machines
out on the trails again!!
Election
of officers was held in June. Again this year, Kirk Ellis will serve
as President, Clark Allen as Vice-President, club secretary as
Secretary/Treasurer.
When
you receive your membership packet for this season, you will find a
form describing a monthly drawing for cash which will be held at our
membership meetings. Prize money will be doubled if winner is in
attendance. We are doing this with the hopes that it will attract more
members to attend our meetings. Also, it's always fun to see who the
winner is. Hopefully, it will be YOU!
Also
in your packet, you will find an informational sheet explaining the
insurance coverage you receive when you become a member. As far as we
know, this has never been distributed in the past and we
thought that you may be interested in learning exactly what coverage
you have.
The
membership form has been simplified this year. If you turn the form
over, you will find your present status of membership and the amount
you need to submit to remain a member at that status. If you wish to
change your membership in any way, please use the front side of the
form. You will also find an extra membership form. This is for a
membership recruitment contest. We are offering $100 cash to the
person who can recruit the most members before January 1st.
The winner will also be upgraded to a Platinum Club status for the
remainder of the year and will receive a free Platinum Club membership
for the following year (2001-2002). You may photocopy this form if you
need more than one (or we can send you more forms) - be sure to sign
it at the bottom where it reads "recruited by___".
The
RLSC has some exciting ongoing projects for this season. One of our
members with web page design expertise has graciously offered to
design a page for the club. The site will be up and running in the
near future. When you enter our site, you will be able to get the
latest weather and trail conditions in Rangeley, lodging and other
business information, schedule of events, and other miscellaneous
information. Please write to the club with any suggestions you may
have for our web page. More information on this in the next
newsletter.
Speaking
of monthly membership meetings, we do not have scheduled meeting
places at this time. The newsletter will be mailed out the first of
each month and will indicate the location for the meetings. As in the
past, the meeting will be held on the second Saturday of each month.
The
Rangeley Trail System will see some changes for this season. ITS 84
behind Rev-It-Up will be relocated. Also, the Magalloway bridge
project will be done (hopefully) before snow. We finally received the
permit and can proceed with construction. We can't emphasize enough
the need for volunteers to work on this bridge. It must be completed
before the end of the year to comply with the grant we have received
from the State. If you can help with this project, please let Clark
Allen know by writing to him at the club address or by phone at (207)
864-2039. This is the largest project the club has ever undertaken.
Completion of this bridge will be a huge improvement on the trail to
Pittsburg, NH, one of our most heavily traveled trails. Please
consider joining one of the work parties being organized by Clark. We
appreciate any help we can get. The Club is planning a dinner for
volunteers who help on the bridge. We can make this a fun thing along
with the work.
Unfortunately,
Oquossoc Trails has opted not to groom for the Club this year. They
are presently undergoing the process to become a tax-exempt
organization and this prohibits them from following our guidelines as
to submission of paperwork needed for our grant reimbursement. The
club is pursuing the purchase or lease of another groomer so that we
can maintain the entire trail system. The trails will be groomed, as
always, on a regular basis.
Snodeo
will be held on January 18th - 21st. We are planning some new events
for this year. Let's hope it isn't as cold and windy as last year so
we can do the fireworks. The Snodeo Committee is holding meetings and
a tentative agenda will be sent out with the newsletter as soon as it
is available.
Plans
are in the works for another "mini" snowmobile raffle this
year. This drawing will be held in February at the annual RLSC
dance held at People's Choice. Tickets will be sent to all members as
soon as they are available.
Maps
will be updated to show new trails and rerouted trails in the near
future. Trail maps are available by writing to the club (address at
end of newsletter) - the cost is $5 plus $1 shipping.
We
will have a booth at the Augusta Civic Center during the annual
Snowmobile Show on October 6th, 7th, and 8th. The club would
appreciate volunteers
to man the booth. If
you are interested please let us know. Hope to see you there!
Let's
get those memberships coming in so we can continue to be the "#1
Maine Snowmobile Club"!!! Also, don't forget to send in your
Super Raffle Tickets. Sales have gone extremely well so far. We
certainly appreciate everyone's support.
I
guess that's all for now, get those machines all shined up and ready
to go and hope for an early and long winter with lots of snow!!!
