Seems like we’re having Indian Summer
now, after four little snowstorms last month. But, we all know that
winter is right around the corner......
The October meeting of the RLSC was
held on October 11th. Easy Bucks winners were Walter
Johnson and Robert Bumpus (who generously donated his winnings back
to the trail fund). Get your Easy Bucks entries in – you may be the
next winner. The next meeting will be held on November 8th with
dinner at 6:30 PM and the meeting to follow. Linda and Alan Whitford
will be whipping up a meal of fried turkey and all the fixin’s, sure
to be a delicious meal! The meetings are held at the Rangeley Region
Guides and Sportsman’s Clubhouse in Oquossoc. To get there just
follow Route 4 past Oquossoc Marine and look for “Skiway Road” on the
left. The Clubhouse is on Skiway Road on the right hand side.
Pine Tree Camp will be making a
presentation at the November meeting. Not sure what they have planned
but they will be there. This is a camp for disabled children located
in Rome, Maine. They will explain how the Maine Snowmobile
Association and the clubs affiliated with MSA support their program.
Do you like to read? You might be interested in
a book titled “River of Fear” written by Rod Davis. Mr. Davis writes
about the “supernatural”, much like Stephen King stories. This novel
involves snowmobiling and the Rangeley area trails. It is quite
interesting and you will recognize a lot of the areas he describes in
his novel. Mr. Davis has offered us an affliate program and the
club will earn 35% of the sales we make through our web page and by
mail. The cost of the book is $19.95 including shipping.
You may get more information on the book or place an
order here. Or, you can order it by
writing to Morningstar Communications, PO Box 5740, Pagosa Springs,
CO 81147. The author will autograph all RLSC
copies and if you get your order in before Christmas you can email Rod
a personalized autograph "message" for the book.
Remember, Christmas is right around the corner, this would make a
great gift for a reader on your Christmas list. Keep in mind too,
that all of our fundraising money is spent on the trail system to make
your ride more enjoyable!
We still have not received many
membership renewals. Remember, if your membership isn’t in, your
insurance doesn’t take affect and you will stop receiving the MSA
Newspaper and eventually, this newsletter. Our program depends on
memberships to survive. It is to your benefit to join the club.
It may seem a little early, but
enclosed with this newsletter is the invitation to the RLSC Christmas
party. As always, we ask that everyone attending bring a
non-perishable food item or a toy which will be distributed to needy
families by “The Giving Tree”, an organization here in Rangeley.
Also, enclosed are ten raffle tickets for the huge 50/50 drawing we do
at the Christmas party. You can participate even if you are unable to
attend the party. Just fill in your name and address on the back of
the ticket and mail them back to the club. They are $1 each. Make
sure you mail the side with your name and address written on them. If
you are the winner, a check will be mailed to you. This raffle
usually awards the winner between $700 - $800. Who couldn’t use that
just be the holidays??????
We have more MSA Super Raffle Tickets
if anyone wishes to purchase more. There are some great prizes
awarded on this raffle, of course, the top prizes are snowmobiles but
many, many prizes listed on the back of the tickets. Just request the
tickets by mail or through our web page, they will be mailed to you.
Still haven’t finalized the agenda for
Snodeo. But, for sure, all of the events
will be held so if you haven’t made your reservations for the weekend,
you should do so very soon if you need to reserve a room. We are
going to have the parade down Main Street again this year and will be
awarding trophies to three most creatively decorated snowmobiles. The
fireworks will take place immediately following the parade. Will
definitely include an agenda with the December newsletter.
The RLSC had booths at the Augusta,
Maine Snowmobile Show and the New England Snowmobile Expo in
Springfield, Mass. We were quite successful in selling raffle tickets
on the Polaris we will be raffling off at
Snodeo. Many thanks to our volunteers who manned the booths. They
are Clark Allen, club secretary, Robert Breen, Tim Lyons, Don and Sandi
Dumont and Don Hayes.
We still have long sleeve t-shirts and
hats for sale; you can check them out at our
on-line store. We have all sizes available in tan and gray and
we have 3XL shirts available in white. The cost is $18 plus shipping
costs. Just write or e-mail the club if you would like one and it
will be mailed to you with an invoice.
Enclosed you will find some
information I thought would be interesting for you to read. This
information comes from ISMA (International Snowmobile Manufacturers
Association).
Please
visit our Sponsors page to check out businesses who have donated
or pledged to donate to our grooming and
trail maintenance program for this season. Be sure
to patronize these businesses when in the area. It is due to their donations that we have the great riding conditions we
all enjoy!
